Trial of scrap metal dealers cracks the lid open on industry's gritty operations
Saturday, June 20, 2009-- On Aug. 7, 1997, the owners of two Northeast Ohio companies involved in the gritty but lucrative scrap metal business met for breakfast at a Holiday Inn in Mayfield Heights. On one side of the booth sat Jack Weingold, baron of the local scrap industry, and his son-in-law and chief scrap buyer Loren Margolis. Across the table were Frank DeMilta, who started his company in 1981, and his brother-in-law and chief of operations, Ron Vaughn.
