ECAR Ask the Expert September, 2007 Processing Hazardous Waste Q. How is the residual hazardous waste
from a vehicle, processed? Does it have to be separated from/out of the
vehicle first and the product (auto) cleaned before taking it to the landfill
or recycler for recycling?
A. Yes, the waste has to be separated from the vehicle before it is processed for recycling. The waste is taken out of the vehicles AT the salvage yard. That is part of the process that end of live vehicles (ELV) go through. They waste is drained out of the vehicle and then properly disposed of.
