Used Brake Shoes

Q. What do you recommend we do with used brake shoes?

A. Please refer to this site http://www.dtsc.ca.gov/PollutionPrevention/VSR/upload/P2_FLY_VSR_opp_checklist.pdf
where you will find the following recommendations on what to do with brake shoes:

"RETURN BRAKE SHOES TO MANUFACTURERS"
"RECYCLE SHAVINGS OF PADS AND SHOES (SCRAPMETAL RECYCLERS)"
"USE AQUEOUS BRAKE CLEANERS"
"ELIMINATE THE USE OF CHLORINATED SOLVENTS FOR CLEANING"

And on this site http://www.ciwmb.ca.gov/Publications/UsedOil/61003012.pdf, you will find the following recommendations:

"PURCHASE BRAKE LININGS AND PADS THAT CONTAIN NO ASBESTOS"

"SHOES ARE REQUIRED TO BE RETURNED TO THE PARTS SUPPLIERS IN ORDER TO RECEIVE CREDIT FOR A CORE CHARGE.  THE PARTS SUPPLIER THEN RETURNS THEM TO THE REBUILDER FOR REUSE."

"............RECYCLE THEM INTO THE SCRAP METAL STREAM"
